Start with the right file type

Most orthodontic labs can work from STL files, and many can also accept OBJ or PLY files. Montecalvo Orthodontic Lab accepts scans from any scanner as long as the exported file gives enough detail to fabricate the appliance cleanly.

Use a simple case checklist

  • Export upper and lower arches when both are needed.
  • Include a bite scan when the appliance depends on occlusion.
  • Identify the appliance type: Essix retainer, night guard, bleaching tray, sports guard, or custom request.
  • Note upper, lower, or both arches.
  • Include any trim, scalloping, thickness, or special instructions.
  • Use your office's normal privacy process for patient identifiers and file transmission.

What slows files down?

Missing arches, unclear appliance instructions, incomplete margins, and forgotten bite information are the most common reasons a lab has to pause and ask for details. A short note with the file often saves more time than a long email later.

Direct communication matters

For offices in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, and Queen Creek, using a local lab means questions can be answered quickly. If a scan needs clarification, you are talking directly with the person handling the case.
